Our 6th and final week of summer camp for 2015 was held in Misipawistik Cree Nation. It was great to see once again the children that attend our Kids’ Clubs every week and enjoy the week with them. And what a hot week it was!! Temperatures over 30 degrees left everyone wilted by the end of the days’ programs. For this year’s program, the local school was not available due to renovations, so our team made the best use of the Band Hall and surrounding area for games and activities, with a couple of events held in the arena. It wasn’t the best logistics, but everyone had fun.
Thanks to Misipawistik Cree Nation for sponsoring the program and for supplying the facility (and for the warm welcome when our team arrived just as the community pow wow was ending). Thank you also to Manitoba Hydro for the use of one of their homes for the week and to Charlie and Kathie Ballantyne for treating our team to a ride on the beautiful Saskatchewan River. And also, thanks to the town of Grand Rapids for use of the arena and to Frontier School Division for the use of a bus. Hopefully in 2016 we’ll be back in the school!
Our team was largely from New Covenant Alliance Church, all the way from Scarborough, ON. We certainly appreciate their partnership. By the final week of summer camp, we have made friends and learned from one another and have been privileged to serve together.
Back-to-school is around the corner! We’ll see you kids soon!
