Our work does not end just because summer is over. We return to each community as often as we can (depending on accessibility of the community), with our staff providing youth events such as lunchtime Bible Clubs, Youth Groups, and special events.

Filming at Bloodvein

Some of our special events in the past include Girls’ Days, Craft Clubs and a week-long Filmmaker Program for older youth. For a week in May, Pathway staff and volunteers worked with the Grade 8 and 9 students from Miskooseepi School in Bloodvein, Manitoba introducing them to filmmaking. In the space of one week, these youth wrote, filmed, edited and produced a 16-minute documentary entitled “I Am Anishinabe,” a look at their culture and their community. At the end of the week, the community held a Pot Luck Dinner for the premiere showing of the film. We had a great time with the students and thank the Band and the Nursing Station for their support.

Since the fall of 2011, Pathway has hosted a weekly Youth Group (named “4 Ever Epic”) for youth, ages 11+ in Pinaymootang First Nation (Fairford). We are grateful for the use of the House of Prayer Church Hall for these activities and have seen our attendance increase regularly. About 25-30 youth attend weekly and enjoy the ministry events hosted by our Youth Workers and Interns.  In the Fall of 2013, a similar weekly Youth Group was initiated in Grand Rapids, held in the Band Hall on Tuesday evenings.  If you are on facebook, check out the news and pictures on the “4 Ever Epic” page.

Pathway has also hosted Youth Retreats, inviting First Nations teens to a weekend of good food, teaching, games, and friendship. These offer opportunities to develop meaningful relationships and a network of support for those attending.

During February, a road trip to SK is in order as we take our crew and teens from our Youth Groups to experience YouthQuake at Briercrest College in Caronport.

We are involved in many other programs including Sunday School, Hockey, leaderships sessions, trips to Winnipeg and more.

And, one-on-one mentoring is a highlight as relationships deepen and we explore together what it means to be a disciple of Jesus.
